What "sustainable" actually means, product by product
Sustainability in merch breaks down into a few concrete, checkable categories: recycled material content (e.g. rPET fabric made from recycled plastic bottles), organic material sourcing (organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides), certified ethical production (fair labor and environmental compliance, not just a self-declared claim), and reduced-footprint fulfillment (domestic US production and shipping instead of overseas freight). We're specific about which of these applies to any given product — a recycled-polyester tote and an organic-cotton tee are sustainable in different ways, and we'd rather tell you the real distinction than paper over it with a green leaf icon.
How we reduce footprint beyond the material itself
- US-based vendor sourcing as the default — no overseas fulfillment nodes, which cuts the freight footprint that dominates many "eco" product life-cycle assessments.
- Right-sized ordering: our size-collection link and size-distribution tool reduce over-ordering and the returns/waste that come with guessed quantities.
- Consolidated shipping where possible, instead of fragmented small-batch freight.
- A free Swag Sustainability Score calculator so your team can estimate the CO₂ footprint of a specific order before committing to materials.
Sustainable product categories we source
| Category | What to look for | Common uses |
|---|---|---|
| Organic cotton apparel | Certified organic fiber, no synthetic pesticide inputs | T-shirts, tote bags, aprons |
| Recycled polyester (rPET) | Made from post-consumer recycled plastic | Performance wear, bags, lanyards |
| Recycled/upcycled drinkware | Recycled aluminum or glass content | Water bottles, tumblers |
| FSC-certified paper goods | Responsibly sourced, certified forestry | Notebooks, packaging, gift boxes |
For ESG and procurement reporting
If your merch order needs to support an ESG report or a procurement sustainability scorecard, ask your account manager for the specific certification documentation on the materials you select — not every vendor in a given category can produce it, and we'll tell you upfront which products in your order can and can't be backed with paperwork, rather than promising it after the fact.
